TRAINING WITH RACHAEL

Hi, my name’s Rachael, I’m a personal trainer, yoga teacher and Thai yoga massage therapist. Let me tell you a bit about my philosophy, methods and personal experience, so you can get an idea of what training with me feels like and the results you can enjoy.

Fundamentally, what we all want in life is to be truly happy. It seems like such a simple observation, but the reality of achieving this is often so complex. With busy routines, economic challenges and personal demons, the art of happiness can easily escape our grasp. Finding calm in stressful situations, feeling happy with your body, quietening the chatter of your mind, whatever it may be that you need in your life, it is achievable. Big changes in our lives come from the many small decisions we make on a day to day basis. How we see the world and the mental filters through which we look at our experiences, impact our happiness.

For me, the road to unconditional happiness is to love myself fully, with all my flaws and quirks and to accept each moment, bad and good, as a part of this incredible journey of life. 

Exercise has become a means to achieve the ‘perfect’ body in our modern world, yet it is so much more than this. It is a way to free yourself from mental chatter, conditioned thought patterns, stress, and anxiety, and begin to feel more alive, healthier, more agile, flexible. In my classes both private and group, yoga and fitness, I encourage people to reconnect with themselves. To do this you must let go of the words you attach to describe yourself and your life, and start to feel more, connect with yourself on a physical level, your breath, your heartbeat, or maybe the challenge or running that bit faster, jumping higher. To stay committed to any practise, it is important to focus on how it improves the way you feel, emotionally and physically and from here, a love for this practise will grow, bigger and more radiant than you could have ever imagined.

I followed this with training to be a personal trainer and yoga teacher and began working in Nuffield Health Gym in Cambridge. During the 4 years I worked there I expanded my repertoire and certified as a Thai Massage therapist. Changing careers to work in something I’m passionate about, is an integral part of my everyday life and is constantly teaching me new and exciting things, has been a huge blessing. I feel honoured to be on this journey and to be able to share what I am discovering with others.

What I have learned and am still learning is that exercise is not only an instrument for physical change but also a tool to strengthen the mind and to reduce stress and anxiety.

YOGA STYLES

A healthy body is strong, flexible and well-nourished, as is a healthy mind. Experience has taught me that it’s important to combine different training styles, meditation, and breath work with a healthy diet for people to feel at their best. I encourage my clients to enjoy the combination I can offer of strength training, mobility work, yoga, and fitness. Owing to the practice and study of these styles of exercise and relaxation, I offer a well-rounded service and extensive knowledge of the workings and movements of the human body.

POWER YOGA

Power Yoga finds it’s roots in Ashtanga and Vinyasa Yoga. A typical class includes a good number of vinyasas or sun salutations. It strengthens and tones the body through the use of a person’s bodyweight in various different dynamic and isometric poses and exercises.

VINYASA FLOW YOGA

Similar to power yoga yet gentler. Vinyasa is the marriage of movement and breath. It is a dynamic practice that teaches you to meditate as you move and that allows the body to build up heat progressively through the class, allowing for deep stretches that rapidly improve flexibility and mobility.

SOFT YOGA

A therapeutic practice, soft yoga helps to calm the mind and stretch the body. The classes are varied and focus on a mixture of gentle stretches, back strengthening exercises and mobilizing movements.

HATHA YOGA

The term Hatha Yoga encompasses any, or most, of the physical practices of yoga and therefore can be a very varied style. This means the classes can be adapted to the practitioner’s needs.

YIN YOGA

A gentle physical practice, Yin Yoga helps to calm the mind, lower the heart rate and helps the body to enter into a peaceful state. Poses are held for a minimum of 3 minutes, allowing time to focus on breath and to enter into a meditative state.

Through circuits, team games and HIIT (high intensity interval training) training you will improve your core strength and tone, increase your cardiovascular capacity, strengthen your muscles and joints, increase your energy and boost your self-esteem. Dietary advice and moral support are offered to help you reach your goals and if and when necessary, private sessions at a discounted price to help you with your personalised needs.

PRIVATE GROUP SESSIONS OFFERED AT COMPETITIVE RATES

Fun in the sun! Come to Spain with your friends and family and let’s get together on the beach for some 60-minute classes of circuits, team games and a dip in the sea to cool off at the end.

What do you want to get out of your practice? How do you want to feel both physically and emotionally? Are you working around any injuries or conditions? In your private sessions, the practice is unique and specific to fit your needs, goals, and current abilities. We can focus on yoga alone, fitness and strength alone, or mix them together.

Thai Yoga Massage

THE BENEFITS

An elegant combination of acupressure points, applied yoga, work with energy lines and an optional back, shoulders, neck and face massage with oils. Thai massage works with both the physical and the energy body, releasing energy blockages and allowing the prana (life-force) in your body to flow freely. The combination of applied yoga and energy line work help to mobilise and open your body, balance your energy and calm your mind. Energetic blockages are often linked to diseases in the physical body and Thai massage helps to bring your body to an optimal state to both combat and prevent disease.
